The cultural heart
of Cape Cod

Dennis sits exactly where you want to be on Cape Cod — central enough to reach Provincetown or the bridges in under an hour, but grounded enough to feel like the real Cape. North Dennis faces Cape Cod Bay with warm, calm water beaches. South Dennis opens onto Nantucket Sound with wide sandy shores and summer sunsets that justify the drive from Boston alone.

The town is split into five distinct villages — Dennis, East Dennis, West Dennis, Dennisport, and South Dennis — each with its own character and pace. Route 6A cuts through the north side past antique shops, art galleries, and the historic Josiah Dennis Manse. Further south, the rail trail connects the town by bike to the outer Cape.

This is the cultural center of the Cape. The Cape Playhouse — the oldest professional summer theater in America — has been drawing audiences since 1927. The Cape Cinema next door is a National Historic Landmark. The Cape Cod Museum of Art hosts rotating exhibitions through the summer. Come for the beaches, stay for everything else.

Our four Dennis vacation rentals put you within minutes of all of it — and every one of them includes a hot tub, beach chairs, and a welcome from a team that actually picks up the phone.

Theater
Cape Playhouse
The oldest professional summer theater in America. Broadway-caliber productions from June through Labor Day. Book tickets before they sell out — they always do.
Outdoors
Cape Cod Rail Trail
The trail starts in Dennis and runs 22 miles to Wellfleet. Flat, scenic, and entirely car-free. Rent bikes in town or bring your own — this is the best way to see the outer Cape.
Water
Swan River Kayaking
Launch from the backyard of our Swan River House and paddle through tidal marsh to Nantucket Sound. Best at high tide — the herons and egrets are year-round residents.
Views
Scargo Tower
Climb the stone tower on Scargo Hill for a 360-degree view of Dennis, Cape Cod Bay, and on a clear day, Provincetown to the north. It's free, it's five minutes from town, and almost nobody knows about it.
Dining
Sesuit Harbor & the North Side
The harbor area has some of the best waterfront dining on the Cape. Fresh lobster, raw bars, sunset patios. The south side has its own scene — more casual, closer to the beach, equally good.

16 beaches.
We know them all.

Dennis has more beaches than any town on Cape Cod — 16 in total, split between the warm Nantucket Sound to the south and the cooler Cape Cod Bay to the north. Here are the ones worth your morning.

Cape Cod Bay · North Side
Mayflower Beach
The benchmark Dennis beach. Long, wide, and photogenic, with a tidal flat at low tide that stretches far enough to lose sight of the shore. The bay water is cooler than the south side but the views are exceptional.
Tip Arrive before 9am in July and August — the lot fills fast. The half-mile walk from the overflow lot is worth it.
Cape Cod Bay · North Side
Corporation Beach
A local favorite with calm, clear water and a long sandy spit. Popular with families and paddlers. The north end near the jetty is sheltered and perfect for young kids who want flat water.
Tip The parking lot is smaller than Mayflower — weekdays only in peak season if you sleep in.
Nantucket Sound · South Side
West Dennis Beach
The longest beach on the south side — over a mile of warm Nantucket Sound water. Great for swimming, paddleboarding, and kite flying. The boat ramp at the west end makes it popular with sailors.
Tip The east end near the mouth of Bass River is calmer and less crowded than the main beach access.
Nantucket Sound · South Side
Sea Street Beach
A smaller, quieter south-side beach that draws locals more than tourists. Warm water, easy parking by Dennis standards, and a laid-back atmosphere. Good choice for a midweek morning.
Tip No facilities, so bring everything you need. The upside: fewer crowds than the main beaches.
Cape Cod Bay · North Side
Chapin Beach
At extreme low tide, Chapin exposes a vast sandbar that stretches nearly a mile into the bay — one of the most striking sights on Cape Cod. Popular with clamdiggers and people who like to feel like they're walking on water.
Tip Check the tide chart before you go. Low tide is the whole point of this beach. Aim for 2 hours either side of the lowest point.
Nantucket Sound · South Side
Glendon Beach
A quiet residential beach that rarely gets as crowded as the bigger south-side spots. The water is warm, shallow, and calm — ideal for families with young children. Free parking early in the season.
Tip One of the better spots to walk the shoreline at sunset — faces almost due west for the full color show.

A note on beach stickers: Dennis requires a non-resident parking permit at most beaches from late June through Labor Day. Daily passes are available at the parking lots. Weekly and seasonal passes can be purchased at Dennis Town Hall. We can walk you through the logistics before your arrival.
